Jiaying Zhao

Jiaying Zhao uses psychological principles to design behavioural solutions to financial and environmental sustainability challenges. Her research examines the cognitive consequences of poverty and develops interventions to reduce the cognitive burdens on low-income individuals, as well as behavioural nudges to encourage recycling, composting, and biodiversity conservation. She has advised organizations including the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, Policy Horizons Canada, and the City of Vancouver. She received her PhD in cognitive psychology from Princeton University.
