You remain solely responsible for any decisions you make based on the tool's outputs. UBC Sauder School of Business does not guarantee the accuracy, suitability, or completeness of any recommendation generated.
By using this tool, you acknowledge that you have read this notice and agree to the full Terms & Conditions set out below.
1. Acceptance Of Terms
By accessing and using the AI Guided Search Advisor (the "Tool"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the Tool. These Terms & Conditions apply to all visitors and users of the Tool, which is made available by UBC Sauder School of Business ("we", or "us") on the UBC Sauder website.
2. About The Tool
The AI Guided Search is an AI-powered interactive search and recommendation tool designed to help users explore professional development and continuing education offerings from UBC Sauder , including courses, certificates, and programs.
The Tool guides users through a structured series of questions about their career background, goals, and learning preferences, and generates personalized program recommendations based on those inputs and the programming that is offered by UBC Sauder.
The Tool is intended to:
- Help users identify relevant learning options based on self-reported career information;
- Provide a starting point for exploring professional development pathways; and Facilitate informed conversations with UBC Sauder staff and advisors.
- The Tool is not intended to replace professional career counselling, academic advising, or human judgment.
3. AI-Generated Outputs
3.1 Nature Of AI Responses
All recommendations and outputs generated by this Tool are produced by an artificial intelligence system. AI-generated outputs:

Are based solely on the information you provide during your session;

May be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or unsuitable for your specific circumstances;

Do not reflect an individualized assessment by a qualified human advisor;

Do not constitute official UBC Sauder advice, endorsement, or guarantee of admission or program availability; and

May contain errors, including responses that appear plausible but are factually incorrect (sometimes referred to as "hallucinations").
3.2 Guidance Only – Not Professional Advice
The outputs of this Tool are provided for general informational and guidance purposes only.
They do not constitute:

Academic advising or enrolment advice;

Career counselling or professional development advice;

Legal, financial, or employment advice; or
-
Any representation or warranty regarding program availability, costs, prerequisites, or outcomes.
3.3 Your Responsibility
You are solely responsible for:

Evaluating the relevance, accuracy, and suitability of any recommendation;

Independently verifying program details, prerequisites, fees, and availability through official UBC Sauder channels before making any decisions; and

Any actions you take or do not take based on the Tool's outputs.

4. Information We Collect
What Information Is Collected
To provide personalized recommendations, the Tool invites you to provide the following career profile information during your session:

Management level

Employment status;

Job function;
-
Industry;

Future title or role you are working toward;

Skills you are most interested in developing;

Preferred learning format;
-
Time commitment available for learning; and

Budget
The Tool also includes a free-text prompt option where you may optionally describe your goals or questions in your own words. You should not enter personal identifying information (such as your name, address, contact details, or financial account information) in any free-text field. UBC Sauder is not responsible for personal information you voluntarily submit through free-text fields.
4.2 How We Use This Information
Information you provide is used to:

Generate personalized course and program recommendations during your session;

Improve the performance, relevance, and user experience of the Tool; and

Understand aggregate patterns in how users engage with professional development options.
4.3 Legal Authority and FIPPA Compliance
The collection of information through this Tool is authorized under the University Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 468, and is conducted in compliance with the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). Personal information collected through this Tool will be used only for the purposes identified above or as otherwise permitted by FIPPA.
4.4 Data Retention
Session inputs and AI-generated outputs may be retained by UBC Sauder for a limited period to support service improvement and quality assurance. Retained data is handled in accordance with UBC's records management and information security policies. Where data is no longer needed, it will be securely deleted in accordance with applicable retention schedules.
4.5 Third-Party AI Provider
This Tool is powered by a third-party AI model provider. Your session inputs may be processed by that provider's systems to generate recommendations. UBC Sauder takes reasonable steps to select providers with appropriate data handling practices; however, UBC Sauder does not have full control over how third-party systems process inputs. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into this Tool.

5. Appropriate Use
By using this Tool, you agree to use it only for its intended purpose: exploring professional development options from UBC Sauder . You agree not to:

Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or replicate the underlying AI model or system;

Submit false, misleading, or harmful content through any free-text field;

Use the Tool to collect, scrape, or process information about other individuals;

Attempt to manipulate the Tool's outputs or recommendations through deceptive inputs; or
-
Use the Tool for any unlawful purpose or in any manner that violates applicable law or UBC policy.
6. Accuracy And Limitation Of Liability
UBC Sauder School of Business makes reasonable efforts to ensure the Tool provides relevant and helpful recommendations. However, we do not warrant that the Tool's outputs will be accurate, complete, current, or free from errors.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, UBC Sauder School of Business and the University of British Columbia shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from:

Your use of, or inability to use, the Tool;

Any reliance on AI-generated recommendations or outputs;

Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in the Tool's outputs; or
-
Any decisions you make based on the Tool's recommendations.
7. Intellectual Property
All content, design, and functionality of this Tool, including the underlying AI system configuration and UBC Sauder program information, is owned by or licensed to the University of British Columbia. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Tool without prior written permission.
AI-generated recommendations produced in response to your inputs do not constitute original works of authorship owned by you. UBC Sauder retains all rights in the Tool's outputs.
8. Third-Party Links And Information
The Tool may surface references to UBC Sauder programs, which may include links to program pages on the UBC Sauder website. We are not responsible for the content of any third-party websites linked from within the Tool. Links are provided for convenience only and do not constitute an endorsement.
9. Changes To These Terms
UBC Sauder School of Business reserves the right to modify these Terms & Conditions at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Tool after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of British Columbia.
