Change Management Fundamentals

Applies to Certificate

This foundational course introduces you to the discipline of Change Management, a structured, evidence-based approach to guiding people through transition. You will explore how individuals and organizations experience change differently, how to assess and plan for change impact, and what it takes to build the conditions for lasting adoption. Grounded in globally recognized frameworks, including the ACMP Change Management Standard, Prosci's ADKAR model, Kotter's 8-Step Process, and Bridges' Transition Model, the course gives you both the theory and practical tools to immediately apply change management thinking in your organization.

This course is ideal for:
  • Managers and team leaders who are responsible for coaching teams through transition, and maintaining performance during periods of organizational shift.
  • HR and Organizational Development professionals seeking a structured methodology to complement their existing skillsets.
  • Project and Program Managers who are leading initiatives where adoption and buy-in are critical to delivering the intended business outcome(s).
  • Business and Systems Analysts whose projects involve process or technology change, and who need to account for human adoption in their planning.
  • Senior leaders and executives who govern change initiatives and want to understand what effective sponsorship looks like, and how to enable their teams.
  • Consultants and change practitioners formalizing their change management practice or preparing for ACMP Certification.
Multiple frameworks in one course.
  • The course introduces ADKAR, Kubler-Ross and the ACMP Standard, among other frameworks, giving you a toolkit rather than a single lens.
Applied, case-based learning
  • Work through real organizational scenarios in small groups, practicing stakeholder analysis, impact assessment, and strategy development.
Flexible for working professionals.
  • The course is delivered part-time, with supplementary on-demand content, to fit around your busy schedule.
Live-interactive cohort.
  • Weekly live online sessions, bringing together professionals from across industries, making peer discussions and connections as valuable as the content.
Certificate pathway.
  • Work towards completing the UBC Sauder Certificate in Change Management and continue pursuing the Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP®) designation.
Impact on your organization, team or business:
  • Increase initiative success rates: Research consistently shows that projects with active change management are significantly more likely to meet objectives, finish on time, and stay on budget.
  • Strengthen cross-functional alignment: A shared change management language across units and leadership reduces friction between teams, and improves coordination on complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Accelerated time to adoption: Structured engagement, communication, and training plans help employees move through the change curve faster, reducing the productivity dip that often accompanies most transitions.

Change Management Fundamentals is structured across four progressive modules, each module building on the last. You will spend approximately 8-10 hours per week engaging with readings, case studies, live-online sessions, and applied activities.
